What is Fat Grafting or FAMI?
Fat Grafting is a procedure wherein fat cells are extracted from the body (usually stomach area) and re-inserted into the face -- nasolabial folds (mouth to nose folds), undereyes, cheeks, chin, temples, etc. It is expected that some of the fat inserted will be re-absorbed into the body, while the rest remains permanent.
Where is the fat grafting procedure performed?
A Fat Grafting procedure can be done in an operating room with general anesthesia, or, in some cases may be done in-office using local anesthetic.
Typical Fat Grafting Recovery Time
This procedure is not incredibly invasive but does create a moderate amount of swelling afterwards. Everyone reacts differently, with most of the swelling subsiding in a week or so, and "final results' in 1-2 months. Most fat grafting patients feel comfortable returning to work in one week or so.
Patients should really consider smoking cessation as it significantly decreases the amount of fat that will remain permanent.

Fat injection is quickly becoming a very popular method of replacing volume in the face, hands, buttocks and in other areas affected with aging because some of the fat remains permanently.
